Dynamic QR codes are a flexible and advanced type of QR. These codes are editable and trackable in scans compared to their static counterparts.

QR codes as monochromatic colors, are widely integrated on product labels and packaging for several years now. And if you try to check your purchase, you are likely to see these codes printed on their labels.

But do you know how do dynamic QR codes work? These advanced and flexible QR codes were specially designed as a new generation marketing tool to target customers while keeping things fun and engaging.

It is now easy to generate a dynamic QR code using online QR code generators.

What is the difference between a static and dynamic QR code?

Dynamic vs. static codes. A dynamic QR code provides the ability to change the destination address to which the QR code redirects to. With dynamic QR codes, reprinting of the code is not necessary after changing the address. Unlike dynamic QR codes, static QR codes point to a fixed address. A static QR code does not allow changing the destination that the QR code resolves to when scanned.

Dynamic QR Code

A Dynamic QR code has a modifiable destination URL.

A Short URL is placed into the QR code which then transparently re-directs the user to the intended destination. The destination of a dynamic QR code can be changed at any time and as often as you want – even if your marketing material has already been printed. This will save reprinting costs, effort and enable you to respond to any changes in the campaign as quickly as possible.

One of the biggest advantages of a dynamic QR code it the ability to track online interactions as well as the ability to link into you Google Analytics account. This helps provide attribution to your offline advertising, such as direct mail. Additionally, using Google URL Campaign tool, you can track specifics in the promotional piece, such as key words or call to action statements.

Using a dynamic QR code helps you compare responses for online and offline advertising efforts. This allows you to complete your omni-channel marketing strategy and develop an ROI for each type of media.

Static QR Code

A Static QR code has a fixed destination URL.

The information encoded in static QR codes are fixed. The destination/data is stored directly in the QR Code graphic (hence QR codes are also getting larger and form a more complex pattern if there is more data to store). Therefore, the stored destination/data cannot be changed. Any typo in an already printed QR code cannot be changed, as with any other printed material.
